David Cartwright

Before David completed his service in the Military he knew he wanted to become a Professional Driver. He started working as a part-time Driver for Bison Transport in 2000 while still serving in the Military as an Air Component Control Element (ACCE) where he planned Military aircraft for Western Canada. He chose Bison because "he liked the look of the trucks!” David said it was an excellent career choice. “I love working for this company, I’ve always been treated very well here,” he said. “I’ve been very lucky in my Military career and in my career with Bison.”

David feels strongly that Bison is a great fit for Military people looking to start a new career. “Any skill set that Bison requires in all parts of their operations has an equivalent skill set in the Military. Whether you work in Payroll, Dispatch, Warehousing, Operations or as a Driver, Bison excels in training their people and is an excellent choice for those transitioning out of the Military,” he says. “Military members bring worldly experience to the table. They usually possess a very strong drive toward mission accomplishment and are willing to see a task through to the end. They have gone through they're entire career learning and adapting to very unique conditions and situations.”

David’s Military Background

After serving a successful 30 years in the Military, David reached the maximum time you can serve and was released in 2012. He spent a total of 30 years in uniform which included 25 years in the regular force as a Tank Commander and a member of Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (LdSH(RC)). He completed the following 6 month overseas deployments: Cyprus 1988 - 1989, Haiti with 408 THS 1995, Bosnia in 1997 & 2003.

David began his career at Bison as a Turnpike Driver and now plays an integral role in our Edmonton operation as the Terminal Lead. “This job is what I was meant to do. It’s fun in the Edmonton yard, it’s my thing.”
